On her thirteenth birthday, my daughter wanted to have a pedicure. (I had never before had one.) My husband was concerned about the chemicals in nail polish, so I searched to see if we had a salon that used greener (and healthier) alternatives. Lo and behold, we found a brand new salon in town called Greentoes Tucson: An eco-chic mani-pedi day spa. We had a great experience, but that was three years ago.
My daughter and I also have a tradition of getting away every year in the Spring. We stay at a nice hotel, go to the theater; then visit the used bookstore, and Michael’s. We spoil ourselves, eat cheesecake, and watch girl movies. No noise, no boys to complain about our movie choices…just good times between girls. This year, we decided to go for another pedicure and get the one with the works.
Greentoes is nestled on a quaint street close to downtown Tucson. (It’s easy to miss between the larger buildings.) There is plenty of parking in back of the building, which is a blessing in that area. The house is quite cute and inviting. The lobby is small but well arranged, with wooden floors. The house is quite cute and inviting. The lobby is small but well arranged, with wooden floors. The walls were a calming grey and white. The staff is very professional, while maintaining a sense of comfort. We were offered a beverage the moment we walked in, and then offered a private room; which we chose to decline (but plan on trying next year).
The pedicure room is beautiful! Very spacious, bright, and airy. Their products are eco-friendly and smell heavenly. We were offered a few scent choices; My daughter had the jasmine (she had the same one last time) and I had the citrus.
I was prepared (knowing I had to sit for over an hour) to keep my hands busy with my Christmas knitting project, but that part of the plan didn’t work out the way I imagined. The water treatments and massage felt way too good for me to concentrate on anything. It didn’t take long for my daughter and I to decide that we could get used to this type of treatment! We definitely needed to reevaluate our “get a pedi every three years” schedule.
Their cheapest pedi is the Express, which costs $35.
Greentoes Tucson also offers manicures, waxing, facials, massages, and reflexology foot massage.
Incidentally, my husband got me a massage at Greentoes for my birthday last fall and that was the BEST massage I had ever received.
Overall, we really loved the place. It was started by a school teacher, Christina Rossetti Thompson. From what I gathered, her husband stepped in to care for the spa (which had been her dream) after her MS diagnosis. Very neat story. 🙂 We wish Christina and her family all the best! She has indeed created a little jewel in the desert, where people can relax while being pampered. We will certainly be back, sooner rather than later. In fact, I’m already booking my next appointment and it is not three years away. 😉
