July, found me flying to North Carolina for a seminar; Brevard to be precise. The drive from Charlotte via Asheville and onto my final destination was a culture shock for me, being an Arizonian transplant. I saw trees for hours on end, and not just wispy greenish things. The green was so bright it almost made my eyes hurt. I found North Carolina beautiful, and its people friendly. I was instantly enamored with such a lovely state.
On Friday, my lunch break found me in Food Matters Market & Cafe in Brevard. In the store, I met a young woman who had a display for health and nutrition bars: Ally’s Bar; And the darling person behind the display was Ally herself.
I unashamedly admit that I tried each flavor during the course of my extended weekend. I even brought one home for my husband to try. It turns out, Ally is a cyclist, and she designed these bars as a healthy and nutritious way to obtain extra energy for long rides. My hubby is also a cyclist, and as his wife, I would like for him to eat nutritious and healthy foods whether he rides or not.
He loved them and we have already placed an order.
What is in Ally’s bar?
Ally’s bars are made with sweet potatoes. Why? That is a question best answered by Ally herself:
Sweet potato is a superfood which provides sustained energy, not highs and lows. It contains antioxidants, boosts immunity, and is nutrition dense.
The bars are guaranteed non-GMO, gluten-free, and Kosher.
The bars come in three flavors (I admit to loving them all): original, apple with carrots and ginger, and (my personal favorite) pistachio cashew pumpkin seeds.
I wanted to give you an in-depth description of each bar from Ally’s site:
- Original: Ally’s flagship bar was created with the concept that an all natural, gluten free bar didn’t have to be short of awesomeness. Sweet potato sets us apart, while the dates and quinoa compliment delightfully. Add in some heart healthy nuts, cranberries, bananas and decadent dark chocolate make this a combo sure to inspire your taste buds.
- Apple carrot ginger: Ally was inspired by her favorite juice recipe for this one. We started with the naturally sweet balance of apples and carrots then spiced it up with the stomach-pleasing ginger. Quinoa ‘crisps’ give this bar a slight crunch that enhances each bite. Dashed with sea salt, this bar takes sweet potato down the sweet and savory route to add a little kick to any adventure.
- Pistachio cashew pumpkin seeds: Ally went a little nutty with this one. We precisely selected pistachios and cashews for their top notch taste and good for you elements to add to the power of sweet potato. Pumpkin seeds pump up the uniqueness with it’s dark green goodness. All these nutty ingredients means we’ve packed extra protein and less sugar to keep your body strong and ready for whatever the day throws at you.
