Sometimes, you have to travel all the way across the United States to find something you didn’t know you could find in your own backyard. That’s what happened with the Miracle Tarts by Hail Merry. Let me explain..
I mainly shop at two health food stores: Trader Joe’s and Sprout’s. I personally favor Sprout’s because of their selection, the quality of their products, and the convenience (the store is right off the freeway); despite the fact that it’s a pricier store (or so my husband says).
I am very familiar with my Sprout’s: both the layout of the store and the products they carry (that’s important to the story).
At the end of April, I attended training in the gorgeous and friendly North Carolina. My oldest daughter was my traveling companion. We stayed in a rental and went shopping at a nearby health food store to buy supplies for our meals.
At one point, I wanted dessert.. but I also wanted something healthy.
I was carefully browsing the dessert section (reading labels) when I stumbled across something called Miracle Tarts made by a company I had never heard of: Hail Merry. Cute name, by the way.
I was excited because these pies fit the bill; they were clean (as in food clean, wholesome, and healthy).
I only saw two flavors that I can recall. I purchased the Coconut Vanilla Creme Pie.
Miracle Tarts by Hail Merry
Miracle Tarts are certified gluten free, non-GMO, vegan, Kosher, certified clean eating, and dairy free. They are also partially organic.
As far as allergies, Miracle Tarts do contain nuts; mostly cashews, and almonds. They are also made with coconut meat (some of them but not all) and extra virgin coconut oil.
They are sweetened with either organic agave syrup or organic maple syrup.
What’s not to love? (Well, nuts and coconut if you are allergic).
Psst, and even though the label doesn’t say it: they’re grain free.
How Do They Taste?
When it comes to Miracle Tarts by Hail Merry, what baited me was the list of ingredients. What hooked me was their taste and texture.
My Coconut Vanilla Creme pie was very flavorful and not overly sweet. However, the coconut flavor was not too overwhelming. It was the perfect combination. The pie’s texture was amazing. It was VERY creamy.
This pie made one awesome guilt-free comfort food.
How Much Do They Cost?
Each pie comes to around $3.50. I have seen them on sale for less than $3.00 at my Natural Grocers.
How Many Flavors Are There?
Hail Merry offers their Miracle Tarts in six flavors (three of them chocolate). I have officially tried four of them (for the scope of this blog post only of course) AND I have one new one in my fridge waiting for me to sample.
I have tried all their non-chocolate flavors which are Meyer Lemon, Coconut Vanilla Creme, and Persian Lime.
Their chocolate flavors include Chocolate Almond Butter (which I have tried), Chocolate Mint (which is waiting for me in the fridge), and Dark Chocolate.
So far, hands down, my favorite flavor is Persian Lime. It is sweet, and tangy enough to excite my palate.
My second choice would be the Coconut Vanilla Creme.
The Meyer Lemon was disappointing, in that I could barely taste the lemon. The texture was great.
The Chocolate Almond Butter has two layers: a bottom layer made of almond butter and the top and final layer is chocolate. It is dark chocolate. I liked it but strangely enough, I am not a huge chocolate fan in pies. I would have it again though if I was in the mood.
Where to Find Them?
If your grocery store carries them, Miracle Tarts by Hail Merry will be located in the refrigerated section.
The Rest of the Story
After discovering this little delicacy, I was quite miffed that I had to travel so far to find it. Why didn’t my store carry it? And remember: I know my store, I was certain I hadn’t simply missed it.
Was it a product only found in the Eastern part of the United States?
I looked for Hail Merry’s website and their “where to buy” feature to find out that while my particular store did not carry Miracle Tarts, others in the city did. As a matter of fact, there is a Natural Grocers 4.2 miles away from Sprout’s (yes, I checked) which carries them. AND, because the universe loves me, Natural Grocers had MY Miracle Tarts by Hail Merry on SALE when I went there.
For this reason, and the obvious fact that I was doing research for this in-depth article on this very subject, I purchased four of them. You’re welcome. Thoroughness is next to godliness.
In conclusion, if you want a clean dessert, give this little pies a try.
